Editor's Letter
ach Novemb er, I host Thanksgiving
dinner for my entire family, and it's
my ab s olute f avor ite t h i ng to d o. I
love the smell of pies baking in the
oven, the sound of adults cheering for touchdowns,
and I even love the stress that comes with
making sure ever y dish is hot and ready at the
same time—but what I love most are the memories
made while we're all under one roof and gathered
around one table.
Like many families, aer we're seated, we take turns
sharing what we're thankful for. e adults list good
health and good friends, and we laugh as the kids say
grasshoppers and mashed potatoes. Young and old,
we're grateful for different things, but the happiness
we feel from expressing our gratitude isn't defined
by our age or the time.
e positivity we create from saying "thank you"
transcends this moment and makes us feel more
connected to not only each other, but also the world
around us. at's why I ask—why do we limit this
tradition to anksgiving? Why don't we express
our appreciation and gratitude year-round? It's this
question that inspired the theme of this issue.
is issue is all about being grateful, mindful, and
intentional. In the coming pages, you'll discover the
power gratitude holds (P. 18) and unique ways to
practice gratitude by giving back to your community
(P. 16). We also share what some of our readers are
most grateful for this year (P. 23) and a gratitude
challenge the whole family can enjoy (P. 22).
I'm so thankful that you've chosen to be here with us
at Coming Home. I hope our latest stories encourage
you to count your blessings during this upcoming
holiday season and beyond.
