Less Stress
• Make to-do lists. From picking your outfit to curating a playlist, make a checklist of everything you
need to do—and then prioritize it from the most important to the least. Work through the pressing
details, and only worry about the trivial extras if you have time.
• Keep the menu simple. When you're cooking for a crowd, stick with dishes you know. Save the
surprises that come with experimenting and trying new recipes for later.
• Go self-serve. Set up drink stations and turn your complicated meal into a potluck or a buffet. You'll
be able to enjoy your guests and spend less time fussing over oven timers and refreshing drinks.
More Joy
• Plan activities. Whether it's decorating cookies or playing a game of cards, having activities
planned keeps everyone engaged and entertained at gatherings and takes the pressure off hosting.
• Hire cleaners. Consider the lack of cleaning you need to do as a present to yourself. If
professional cleaners aren't an option, recruit kids and guests to pitch in.
• Relax and have fun. The holidays are about making memories and being with the people you love.
Get out of the kitchen, take off your apron, and live in the moment. The dishes can wait!
