hat I look forward to most during
the holidays is flying home to help
my family decorate the tree. Cranking up
holiday music, stringing lights, and hanging
ornaments gets me into the spirit and
makes me happy.
Unfortunately, the journey back home to
Ohio isn't always an easy one, especially in
December. Cramming gifts in my suitcase,
braving the airports, and driving through
the slush and snow is stressful, but I know
I'll be home soon. I'll be able to add my
special touch to the tree, explore brightly lit
neighborhoods, catch up with old friends,
and bake my mom's famous gingerbread
cookies. That familiar, cozy, comfortable
feeling outweighs all the stress.
Comfort: that's the magic of the season
and the theme behind this issue. While
we may celebrate differently, we all seek
a sense of comfort not only during the
coldest time of year, but also every day of
our lives.
In the coming pages, we sink into stories
about comfort. We're sharing tips for
bringing more joy and less stress to
the holidays (P. 20), expert advice for
helping new residents feel at ease in
their communities (P. 31), and a guide for
buying the perfect rug to make your space
comfortable (P. 10). We also asked our
readers to tell us their cozy favorites (P. 8),
and we provide fireplace best practices,
so every evening around the fire is so
delightful (P. 9).
I hope this issue brings you much-deserved
peace, comfort, and joy. Wishing you and
yours a happy holiday season.
