ASK A COMMUNITY MANAGER How Can We Make the Most of Virtual Meetings? MATT BRAMLETT SHARES BEST PRACTICES FOR DIGITAL DISCUSSION. 1. Prepare Review the agenda before the meeting to familiarize yourself with the topics of discussion. To learn more about a specific agenda item, check out the most recent set of approved meeting minutes; you might find some useful nuggets of information. Minutes are usually posted on a community's online portal. If they're not, your community manager should be able to point you in the right direction. 2. Get Involved Homeowners are typically invited to participate during the open forum. Take notes during the meeting and use the open forum to make your voice heard on the issues that matter to you. Just remember to be respectful of others, stay within your allotted time, and maintain a professional tone. 3. Be Courteous Plan your day accordingly, and be courteous and quiet during the meeting. Don't eat on camera or stream a football game while your microphone is on—believe me, it's happened. Keep yourself muted to minimize background noise and turn your camera off if needed. By simply attending, observing the board in action, and witnessing the decision-making process firsthand, you're helping your community succeed. Volunteer to serve on a committee or run for a position on your board of directors to make an even greater impact!"
