Dish Duty Done Right UPKEEP Dishwasher do's for a better clean. Know what to wash. Not everything can go in your dishwasher. Delicate items and non-dishwasher-safe plastics can be ruined even from a single cycle. Typically, fine china, cast iron, wooden utensils, sharp knives, insulated mugs, and thin plastic are no-gos. Always read labels and err on the side of caution to keep your cherished valuables intact. Understand the settings. Don't let the dishwasher settings panel intimidate you; choosing the right one can make or break performance. You shouldn't use delicate glassware settings after spaghetti night or a quick wash for platters dirty with barbecue. Check your dishwasher's manual to find the settings that suit your needs. Use rinse aids. Rinse aids are the unsung heroes of dishwashing. This superpower liquid prevents water spots, improves drying, and enhances overall cleanliness. Add it to your dedicated compartment and savor the extra sparkle. Organize your loads. Correct organization is, arguably, one of the most important parts of dishwashing. Properly load your dishes, placing them strategically without overlapping. Heavily soiled stuff should be near the machine's center so water and detergent can reach every nook and cranny. Put larger tools like spatulas and ladles on the upper rack. Sort forks, knives, and spoons into the utensil holder, ensuring they aren't nested together. Clean consistently. If your dishwasher is going to clean your dishes, it needs to be cleaned, too. Aim for an extensive monthly refresh, giving filters, spray arms, door seals, and the machine's interior some TLC. Use natural products like vinegar, baking soda, and a steam cleaner to avoid damage from harsh chemicals. PRE-WASH To soak dishes with excessive stains before a full wash NORMAL WASH For daily, regular use QUICK WASH To clean up minimal stains on a time crunch HEAVY WASH Perfect for cleaning pots, pans, and baking dishes HI-TEMP WASH Removes baked-on residue and grease SENSOR WASH This can sense when to wash and dry automatically SANITIZE Specifically for getting rid of bacteria RINSE Sprays dishes with water, similar to a pre-wash Dishwasher Settings Cheat Sheet 28 COMING HOME MAGAZINE
